Cracks and nail/screw pops in drywall

Modified on Thu, Dec 15, 2022 at 9:21 AM

Drywall blemishes to include cracks and nail pops are always a difficult to navigate. Occupants want perfect walls however walls are never perfect and humidity and occupant use play a role a builder can't control. Many builders have spent substantial time trying to unsuccessfully satisfy occupants.

1. Make sure all drywall repairs are identified during the Pre Delivery Inspection, hopefully with your HomeBySix representative.  This is the best time to get a builder to make repairs.

2. Realize that the standard for repair is viewable under normal lighting condition, from a normal viewing point and at a distance of 6' Approx. The standard is so that occupants don't stand inches away from the wall to find every blemish.

"Once you see it, you can never un-see-it!"

3. If cracks or blemishes to include nail pops occur once your have moved in, it is always best to wait for full drying of the building to occur. When we say drying that is reaching a normal state it isn't because the house got wet during construction.

4. Paint, it is highly unlikely that your builder will paint any drywall repairs, this is standard practice in the industry and a very easy job for you to do or ask HomeBySix for a trade list.
